Julia Redding (she/her) is a visual arts educator and interdisciplinary artist based in downtown Toronto. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from OCAD University, where she also spent a formative year studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Since graduating, she has worked with various local arts organizations and international education programs, including supporting students studying abroad in Florence.

With over a decade of experience teaching youth aged 14–18, Julia has taught primarily in small, specialized private schools where she has built inclusive and responsive classroom environments. Her approach is grounded in compassion, critical thinking, and creativity. She believes in tailoring lessons to meet the individual learning goals of each student and is deeply committed to fostering curiosity, confidence, and self-expression in the classroom.

Julia has experience teaching both in person and online and believes that meaningful, hands-on learning can happen in any environment with the right preparation. In her classes, students explore materials as a way of engaging with meaning, interpretation, and personal voice. Whether teaching studio art, art history—with or without a focus on the Italian Renaissance—or English, Julia encourages experimentation and critical reflection. She has also guided students in preparing successful portfolios for top art and design programs.

At the heart of Julia’s teaching is a belief in student-centered learning, where exploration, empathy, and creative risk-taking are encouraged and supported.
